The Hidden Sister

On Saturday, during a rainy and cold day, tucked away in a secret location nestled along cobblestone streets in Manhattan, we did the shoot for Zina Brown's short film, The Hidden Sister. I put on the false eyelashes, got the black kohl rimmed on my eyes and did an old gypsy spell on camera to be immortalized for all time. There was a ball of solid ice, there was fire, there was raven feathers from far off places, there was magic twigs and bark from a special tree, and then there was just the gleaming.... The wind and the rain creaked the building and the sound of Kai Altair's new song "Shine" played as I moved my arms to the sky, golden bracelets stacked one upon another. Magic was in the air.
Things that I learned during the seven hour shoot.....my little dog, Niney, really wants to be a movie star, or maybe she could just feel all the magic her gypsy mama was brewing up and she wanted to be near it. At one point, she was cuddled next to my leg underneath layers of black cloak just to be by my side. We made sure to save the very last shot of the day for her! I held her in my arms and we leaned over the magic table and she was very interested. She is my lovely Familiar.....that is for sure.
Kai took a bunch of amazing pictures behind the scenes on the set which she posted up here. I chose to share this one with all of you because I'm in the middle of one of my spells - being all serious and on either side of me are the butts of two of the things I love the most - Burke butt on the left, Niney butt on the right. Yep. Awesome.
Stay posted for all film release deets! xoxoxoxo

Dreams of Rain

In the early morning hours of Sunday, I had a dream of rain for the very first time in my life. There I was in the dream, in a sundress at nighttime, out on an empty street alone, barefoot and dancing in the rain. I could feel the rain drip down my hair and onto my shoulders. It felt as though it was really happening, that I had found this empty place where soft rain fell somewhere in the corners of my mind. I felt very free and alive.
A female voice called out into the night and said, "Come in from the rain, you're going to catch a cold...."
I didn't listen. I kept dancing and exploring the streets in my slip and my dripping wet hair.
I woke up with a 100 degree fever.
I can't say I wasn't warned....but it was worth it to dance all night someplace far away in the rain...

NYC Subway Adventures

Since the story below was not captured in a picture, I will instead post this photo of me to remind you that yes, sometimes I am silly. Sometimes I try to mimic a random picture of cotton candy with a face on it. And that's okay. Anyway....
Today. I'm in the subway, on my way to an audition and I've got crystal encrusted flowers all over my hair, I've got the cause-a-wind-storm-by-blinking huge false eyelashes on, I've got the five inch heels, the vintage wiggle dress and blood red lipstick. Yes. At this point, both you and I are seriously doubting my logic in taking the subway. I should also mention it is 2 in the afternoon, so I'm surrounded by business casual Friday afternoon people who are also confused about this, too.
Anyway... I notice this huge, hulking, very intimidating guy across from me staring. Which, I mean, I'm a sight, so I'm not mad at that. But then the girl next to me gets up and gets off at the next stop and he stands up and sits down next to me. And when I say next to me, I mean - rightnexttome. In which the most genius conversation of my life then happens:
Hulking Guy: Hey! You're pretty! What do you do? What are you doing?
Me: Thank you! I'm on the way to an audition. (Which was true.)
Hulking Guy: Oh really? For what?
And I have no idea what made me say this. But I looked him dead in the eye and said:
"RuPaul's Drag Race."
END OF CONVERSATION.
*WIN*
Thank you and Good night!

Kisses Around the World: Project Blood Donation

Inspired by the VKA and the Kisses Around the World - Project: Blood Donation - I decided it was once again time for me to take the needle at the Red Cross. In the picture, I'm wearing my VKA garrison style military cap that someone made me. I'm closing my eyes imaging a good pinch of the adventure, good luck, and love I've had move with my blood into the bag, so that the person that receives my blood will get a super pick-me-up (and might also have an intense unexplainable urge to wear false lashes and red glitter lipstick).
My author friend, Lisa Beebe, contacted me this week and let me know that Pay it Forward Day, a day to volunteer and help others is happening this year on April 29th, which is also my BIRTHDAY!!!!
So, I am throwing a contest extravaganza over at Veronica's Kissing Army headquarters called Veronica's Birthday Vampy Volunteers Contest!
Wanna get a personalized poster from me, stickers and a special hand written love note? All you gotta do is go out there and make the world a better place by volunteering (helping out at animal shelters, donating blood, helping at a women's shelter, your local library, or a senior citizens home, taking part in a community clean-up, donating your things to a charity store, the list goes on and on!) then blog about it under the Contest Section of the VKA forum before May 1st. Remember, I want to see pictures of your beautiful faces in action! I will pick five winners at random.
Prove to me how hard core you are! Make this world more gorgeous by YOU being in it.
All my love and my red red blood for you, my gorgeous soldiers..... VeVa
